A man fell in love with a merchant's daughter and decided to ask her family for her hand in marriage. It happened that the lady had an unattractive older sister who had yet to receive a marriage offer. The family devised a scheme to have the man marry the older sister instead.
In their culture, it was customary for the bride to cover her face during the wedding ceremony. The unscrupulous family used the opportunity to switch the bride. The man did not find out about the switch until the ceremony was over and legal documents signed. An eighth grader won a district-wide essay contest. Her parents invited relatives and friends to attend the award ceremony. They sat through the entire ceremony but her name was not called. Afterwards, the angry parents confronted the school administrator demanding an explanation. The school informed them their daughter plagiarized an essay on the Internet; she was disqualified from the contest.
"We told your daughter about our decision two days ago. We regret any inconvenience."
